Fiddler on the Roof - Midway, Utah

There is a giant field across the street from my house, when I found out that they were setting up a stage for an outdoor theater I was so happy, it could of easily been a subdivision with 30 houses and construction for years. Now I just have to enjoy the soothing voices of community theater, last year The Sound of Music this year Fiddler on the Roof, life is sweet. The show starts tonight, stop and say "hi" if you go to the show. Have a good weekend!

Food Rules?... I say, "Food IDEAS"

I love the book "Food Rules" by Michael Pollan, but I don't like the ideas of someone giving me more rules. This book is full of a bunch of great ideas about eating and living better, so I think it should be called, "Food Ideas" and the artwork by Maira Kalman is brilliant too. I love to eat but I have a ton to learn when it come to eating a bit more sensibly. Happy Tuesday.

My Kid in Cambodia

My kid is in Cambodia doing some humanitarian work. She has volunteered with disabled kids and is a smart kid. She wants to be a foreign exchange student next year. Cool kid, I wonder what she is going to be when she grows up? I am lucky to be her dad. Here is a cool write up about Cambodia from my wife's blog.

Summer Solstice

One of my favorite days of the year. There is something lovely about all that sunshine.

Rocking the Boat

A few of my favorite things: boats, New York City, water and filmmaking. Okay July is looking good for a cool bit of documentary work with Rocking the Boat. I am doing pre-production research now, I very blessed with another great project.

the lake twice today

Two lake trips today, once with the kids and kayaks and once with the Park City Sailing group. I was on the committee boat tonight moving the marks. It was a great night of racing.

Saying, "NO" sometimes

Being freelance is a wonderful thing, you are a phone call away from an adventure down the street, across the country or on the other side of the world. Last week with 2 days warning I was off to The Florida Keys, this week I have to say "No" to a project with one of the Paskowitz Brothers, it breaks my heart because those people have history. Anyway can't do it because I have a kid in Cambodia, one heading to Moab and one heading to soccer camp...all is good, life is rich, I am indeed grateful haha. Check out the the trailer of SURFWISE the film about the Paskowitz family made by documentary filmmaker Doug Pray, this film is totally worth a movie night and will for sure generate tons of conversation about family, school, kids, surfing, travel and a bunch of other stuff. Happy Tuesday

Happy Father's Day OO

Happy Father's day to my dad. He taught me a lot and respected me when I wanted to me a filmmaker, in fact he has been a great cheerleader of my documentary film career from the very beginning. Photos--random snaps of my dad over the years.

Park Silly Sunday Market, Park City, Utah

Noelle will be selling her stuff at the Park Silly Sunday Market this year. Here is a short video I did for her, I needed to test the LENSBABY lens system too, this is a pretty weak test, I should spent more time but I need to run to the Airport in a few hours. Have a sunny Sunday.

Kiteboarding in Utah

Down the street from our place seems to be the Utah headquarters of kiteboarding, the Charleston end of Deer Creek Reservior. I stopped and enjoyed the sights but will not be joining them because the last thing I need is another hobby, but it looked real fun though. There was a lot of wind this weekend. In the morning I head to Florida for another "Turning Point" show.

Climbing on Art

It was great fun filming this dude Mike Whiting. His work makes me smile. I think the most powerful art experiences I have had in the last few years have been sculpture. Camila Nagata helped Mike today too.

More Climbing on Art

A great day with this cat, I love his work. Mike Whiting, by the way.

Today I film Mike Whiting

Today I will be filming artist Mike Whiting, I love this guys stuff and in fact I have one of his pieces. Check out Mike Whiting's art here.

My Mike Whiting sculpture

Noelle surprised me with this Mike Whiting sculpture for Christmas, I love this piece.

Ray Bradbury RIP

I am not a Sci-Fi guy but a college lecture from Ray Bradbury in 1988 changed my life. The hour I listened to Ray live was amazing and shaped my film career and I did not decide to study film till 1989, well come to think of it, maybe it was Ray Bradbury that gave me the courage to study film. Here are a few quotes from the day: "See, what I want from you is to live hysterically at the top of your lungs. And anyone that gets in your way, you shout them down and shove them out of the way." "Everything you do has to be out of love. Nothing must be out of money. Money is the reward for doing beautiful work. But you can't think about that. You can't think about the market place for any sort of idea. You just look at a thing and say, 'I must do this. I can't help it. I cannot resist doing this.'" "This is your challenge, to find a work that is so exhilarating and so full of life. A work that allows you to give back to the world without you even realizing how hard you are working..." I have read his famous fiction but my favorite book by him was a book about writing called, "Zen in the Art of Writing: Essays on Creativity" happy thursday

Open Water Swimming

Just so you know Deer Creek Reservoir (near my house in Midway, Utah) is warm enough to swim in (with a wetsuit--no headache). I did an open water swim there yesterday with my neighbor. My swimming group will be swimming there through the summer not every Monday, Wednesday and Friday but some, we usually start 6:00 am. Drop me line if you want to join. Here is a good source for open water swimming. Happy Tuesday.

Summer is here

In my book it is officially summer, I say Memorial Day to Labor day. The kids are out of school, I finished the cuts on my TV show, got the Laser sailboat in the water and the weather is brilliant. I have a few trips planned and life is feeling good. Please enjoy your summer and I will too. If you are in the neighborhood stop by for a sail, a mountain bike ride or Tacos at Tarahumara. Also we are trying to do as may cruiser cruises as possible. Also I connected the dots on "Summertime" from "Porgy and Bess" by Gershwin---saw this piece on "Sunday Morning" one of my favorite TV shows, great short nonfiction stuff.
