art book find / inspiration

Found this Calder book on my last trip to Keene, New Hampshire. This Book "Calder" has amazing photos by Ugo Mulas. It is brilliant to have a few hours off the wander through funky old books stores and such. Random thought: how could anybody ever get bored with life there is so much stuff in the world to dig into, be curious about, you don't have to even produce anything, you could just consume stuff and have an interesting life. Sorry that sounded a bit preachy.
Anyway, I love Calder's work.

kindergarten graphic designer?

Tim and I are speaking at BYU on Thursday. I used it as an excuse to be a graphic designer. This photo is a screen grab from my 16mm Bolex of Nigel S. in Brooklyn written on with a Sakura Microperm 05 pen.

Peace to Doug

Yesterday a friend of the family, and world class artist V. Douglas Snow died in a car crash in Central Utah. Doug was a brilliant artist and respected by many. He was also super duped loved by his students when he taught at the University of Utah. I had always planned on spending time with Doug and doing an interview with him for the art world to archive, but I never made time for the interview. Lesson to me, if you feel like doing it, do it. Love people while we are here together---we all just one swerve of a car away from our final resting place. Rest in Peace Doug, you will be missed.

the bike mechanic

so drawing, bad iphone snap.

This is a great video about drawing done my friend Chris Coy. I heard an interview from another artist recently that was talking about drawing, he said something like this, “People always ask me when I started drawing and I just ask them, when did you stop drawing?” Any ways this morning I got an email from an old friend, in fact I use to draw with this friend all the time as kids and now he is a full time artist, his name is Chris Miles and he is having a show at the 15th Street Gallery in Salt Lake City this Friday.

earth art = horse play

Lots of outdoor activities in our family turn into small earth art projects. At the waterfall in Capital Reef N.P. we can spend hours swimming and horsing around with rocks, sticks and mud. Thanks to Andy Goldsworthy for the spark of inspiration. (The photos: C with rock stacks, M with red sand ball and a portrait of Andy G.)

C art

Big C paid a visit to the office and added some fine art to my wall.
