My lady's old college roommate, Shannon Weber, has this cool art project called "Love You 2." She basically is spreading positive vibes around, I love it. Here are a few snaps shots and check out her website too.

SILVI from The Poetry Store (dot net)

I got this poem from my lady for Christmas, I love it. I have read it over and over, it feels great and some great advice for me. She got it from Silvi in San Francisco.
This is a snapshot of Silvi while she was writing my poem, photo by Noelle O.

The Circus Project's "CircOdyssey"

Here is a video about the Circus Project's show "CircOdyssey." Rich Patch and I filmed this performance for the TV show Turning Point and later the Circus Project used this footage to make this video. The Circus project is an organization... (from their website) ...development of circus as an art form and funding outreach to homeless & at-risk youth in the Portland, Oregon metro area. I love these people and this is an amazing non-profit organization. Enjoy...

Color in Motion 5K - Dallas, Texas

Here is a video I shot, directed and edited for the Color in Motion 5K in Dallas, Texas a few weeks ago. These events are super fun, just a lot of people making up their minds that they are going to have a good time. Enjoy.

Style Rookie

I stumbled into this girl a few days ago online, very interesting. I am always impressed when people make their passions happen online. She is a fashion blogger that started when she was 11 and is now 16, she now has several sites, a book and is on TV and goes to New York for fashion week and stuff like that. Unique kid that is making it happen. Check out her site Rookie Mag. Above photo from her blog. Also check out this video of her chit-chatting about fashion. (I did nothing with this video)

A Night of Art

Last night had a great night of art and chit-chat with old friends and new friends. I was digging this girl's art, my good friends Dan and Cass' kid. I guess with a name like Fiona Matisse Barney you just might have been exposed to art as a kid. Again this kid rocks and I love here work. Keep an eye out for a mini-documentary on Fiona in the new year.

Good Morning

This the view out my office window. It is the backside of Mt. Timpanogogs.

Røde NTG-3

This is a great documentary microphone. Mine went down and Røde from Australia shipped me a new one- good mic, good company. You have to power it, but not a problem, I just flip the 48V Phantom Power switch on my recorder and it is all good. I use it 3 ways: mounted on top of my Canon 5D, on a mic stand with an arm during talking head interviews, and if I have a sound person or extra person I put it on a boom pole.

my art

It is time for the weekend, here is one of my favorite paintings, a gift to Dan and Cass Barney. I need to do more of these house paint paintings, or maybe I should just be a filmmaker. Have a good weekend.

Brain Kershisnik and Joseph Adams

Yesterday no blog because I was shooting Brian and Joe in Kanosh, Ut for a video of my upcoming YouTube Channel THE TALKING FLY. It was a simple cinema verite video snap shot of their ongoing creative collaboration, 15 plus years of doing art together. Joe was a lot of fun and here drew a picture of me, I will post it when I get my hands on it. Happy Thursday.

Flick Trix TV Spot

Flick Trix TV spot from Solpin Films on Vimeo.

Every once and a while I get to be all Hollywood and direct a giant budget TV commercial, here is one I did for a toy company. It is strange to have 40 people on set as you direct, but I must tell you that I am just as comfortable to with that as my small documentary crews and flying solo- it is just another flavor of production. Happy Tuesday.

The Beehive Bazaar

This weekend is the Beehive Bazaar in Provo,Utah, my wife Noelle is one of the owners. The Beehive Bazaar is a handmade/DIY arts and craft sale/fair, a great place to get funky stuff as gifts for Christmas. This year I helped out and with the help of the folks at the local NBC TV station KSL, we managed to get 4 days of TV coverage- 2 mini profiles, my wife was on the show "Studio 5" and they shot live at the opening day of the sale. Here are the 2 mini docs. Have a Good Weekend.

The Talking Fly (#9)

Had art time with the kids in the garage today, so I thought I would make another Talking Fly ad. The Talking Fly is a video project that I am launching on YouTube that will feature short documentaries, some stand-alone and some longer shows cut into 2 to 5 minute pieces- like a web series of sorts, anyway it will be just a place to explore passion and/or nonfiction filmmaking.

Here is a little spot I did for the Beehive Bazaar. The Beehive Bazaar is a good way buy local and support handmade stuff for Christmas and Holiday giving. My Wife Noelle is one of the owners of Beehive Bazaar. (this spot played on KSL TV yesterday)

Brain Kershisnik Re-Do

We have one small original Brian Kershisnik painting and I have always hated the frame, so I ripped it out of the frame and gave Brian some paint pens. I like the Re-Do a lot.

A Hillman Curtis Book

Here is great book by the late Hillman Curtis, the title says it all "Hillman Curtis on Creating Short Films for the Web." The technical info is outdated, but the spirit of this book is spot on, at least for me. Here is a short Hillman Curtis documentary that I think is peaceful and nice. Happy Monday.

Brian Kershisnik notes

The amazing Utah artist, Brian Kershisnik, spoke at the Creative Collaborative last week. I did not go but I love the notes I got in an email ReCap: Work hard, and work a lot - it takes a lot of work to find your voice / Follow the thread that speaks to you / It is important to enjoy yourself / As artists, it is our job to feel / Take care of your home turf - be active in the community that you live / Establish lasting contacts with the people around you, and take time to give back / It's tough for God to steer a parked car / Good symbols will put themselves into the work better than you can force them in.

Blog Post about Tonight

Here is a little blog post I wrote about tonight's Turning Point featuring the Brighter Future Workshop in England.

Happy Veteran's Day

For Veteran's Day I repost this show I directed about Wasatch Adaptive Sports in Snowbird, Utah. There is a great scene with the Vets that do stuff with WAS. The Vets are superstars and it was fun working with them.

Brighter Future Workshop today on Turning Point

This is Paul Miller, he is big part of this documentary I did about Brighter Future Workshop in England this summer. It will be on byutv today and I will embed it here as soon as it is available. I had a great time working Paul and his friends. This is a great story. Happy Monday.

Here are 5 randoms from my computer, used without permission of course- I could not tell you where I got them to tell you the truth. Happy Thursday.
