at Tarahumara

My table at Tarahumara after about an hour with a box of crayons. Tarahumara is best Mexican restaurant around. It is good to sit and chat with my awesome neighbors.

Back in the Pool

After a few months off, I am back in the pool. AHHH! that feels good, I love the water. Check out this photo by Ryan McGinley from a feature called "Olympic Swimmers" NY Times 2004, a very different and refreshing look at swimming and Olympic athletes. Have a good Weekend.

Jordi Casamajo

Speeding through Andorra in the back of a Spanish rental car I caught wind of this guys work. It took I while to find it on Google later but I did find it. I just know his name it Jordi Casamajo. Anyway it's public art, look at all you want, snap a photo, if you are lucky you can climb on it, but I love this stuff. Happy Friday.

State Flags, My top 3

O.K. Here are my top 3 USA state flag in this order: 1. CO 2. CA 3. TX. This is always good chit chat on long documentary road trips. Another good senseless road trip conversation is, what do like better? Elephants, Rhinos or Hippos.

My kid and friends go to Homecoming

homecoming2012 from Solpin Films on Vimeo.

My kid, in blue, getting ready for the Homecoming dance. Blue Dress by Noelle and flowers by cousin Julia and quick and dirt video by me and my boy.It was a good time, it felt like the whole neighborhood was there to send them off.

Our House

...is a very very fine house. Our house before we bought it and after 2 year and Noelle got to it. We are comfortable here.

Seasons Change

Last Night was our last Tuesday night Laser race of the 2012 season, my oldest kid raced in our boat. My youngest kid is old enough to ride my favorite mountain bike trails. Seasons change, I love the 4 seasons of this place. Oh Yeah this Sunfish image, I have never sailed a Sunfish, but I like the way they are celebrating the Sunfish's 60th birthday, cool image.

Casey Neistat's Studio

This video about Casey's iPhone dock is a great chance for CN fans to have a look at his studio. Have I mentioned that Casey is my favorite filmmaker right now?

Facebook Profile Pictures

It is always an honor when people use my snapshots as their Facebook profile pictures.

Just found this snap on my computer, rock climbing with the kids from 8 years ago. They grow up fast; hug 'em lots and go on adventures.

Alusa / Fidalis Art Project Session #3 from Solpin Films on Vimeo.

I need to re-visit this project. Paul is still recovering from his stroke, Fidalis is still doing amazing artwork but they have not done art together for a while. Paul is now doing art and taking art classes with my sister, his Mother in-law.

This kid took out my kid tonight

Brilliant.

Sailboat Race Jordanelle

I raced "420" sailboats with my kid Q today, and ducked out early so she could get ready for a big dance. This is what Lasers look like from high about the lake. Lasers sailing down wind is peaceful and it looks so cool.

Nigel Sylvester's Firsthand on Fuel TV (clip) from Solpin Films on Vimeo.

Here are a few projects I did with the awesome New York City bike rider Nigel Sylvester. Nigel is true pro and living the dream. He rides for Nike, Gatorade and a bunch of other companies. I met Nigel in New York City years ago and I was drawn back to him a few more times. I have not done any BMX filming in about a year but did spend over a decade documenting their stories and bike riding, there were good times doing this work. Have a Good Weekend

Annoying Quotes

You see these things everywhere...urgg! ...but here are few cool ones I ran into this morning, so I thought I would pass them on giggles and grins.

Monika Melnychuk

While in Canada I bought a reusable bag with this girl's bike drawings on it. I love her work. Monika Melnychuk is her name.

My YouTube Channel "The Talking Fly"

A photo from yesterday. My sailing video about Park City Sailing Association will be the first video on my official YouTube channel that I plan on launching on January 1, 2013. The channel will be called THE TALKING FLY, more details to come. It will be a channel of short nonfiction films and clips of unfinished documentaries over the last few decades. It will celebrate passion, art, family, travel, sport and whatever else I am tinkering with. Happy Wednesday

Sønderby Havn, Denmark

Here is a snap from one of my favorite places in Denmark, Sønderby Havn, and below that a photo of my kids with Danish friends in Europe 2007. It is Tuesday and something made me want to take a stroll down memory lane for some reason. Happy Tuesday.

Goodbye Summer

Goodbye Summer. We spent the weekend at the always fun and lovely Lake Powell with our perfectly matched Danish/American friends. A sailboat race this weekend then I am off to Europe to celebrate autumn.

Art that makes you Smile

21 Balançoires (21 Swings) from Daily Tous Les Jours on Vimeo.

Ran into this today. I love art like this. Have a good weekend.

David Silberberg and The Selby

So I am fan of The Selby's photos, I have his first book, and I love his short nonfiction videos, brilliant. OK, so I am watching this Selby/New York Times Video and in the credits, David Silberberg did the audio! David is one of my favorite sound dudes ever, he is an awesome documentary audio guy, one of the best in the biz. Here is a photo from a OLN shoot I did over 10 years ago with David. Below the Selby mushroom video.

a page form my Sketchbook

A page from my sketchbook. I am not a car guy at all, but I like drawing cars, and car like things, for some reason. An Ape Vespa from London.

Casey Neistat's Soda Video

Casey Neistat has a new New York Times Video about a big soda ban in NYC. I don't know if banning big sodas is the answer, but it a cool video about how much sugar these big drinks have, not good. Enjoy the video here. If you can't tell, I am one of Casey's biggest fans. (photo: stolen from his FB page)

A Good Weekend

A good weekend: soccer, fixing bikes, riding bikes and I filmed some sailing for my fleet video. Life is good in Midway. We have been here about 2 years and I still feel like I am on vacation. PHOTOS: I repacked the bearing for my kid's bike, I have not done that since I was a kid with my dad. That bike was on it's way out, now it is cruising. Screen grab of Two J22's that belong to my Fleet, Park City Sailing Association.

Meet the Superhumans

Meet the Superhumans from STITCH on Vimeo.

I saw this AD a hundred time when I was in the UK. It is brilliant and powerful, and a great use of a "Public Enemy" song. The games wrap up this Sunday and it is a crying shame that USA TV has not backed their athletes the way UK have. Channel 4 in the UK was broadcasting the Paralympics all day for the entire games, the US will broadcast about 5 hours for the whole games. Here is a great article about the US's coverage of the games.

Thoughts about Kids

The thing on my mind more than anything right now is BALANCE. My documentary filmmaking and my family and everything else. Have a good weekend.
